What your clients and referrers see

Your clients and your referrers each get a portal. Neither of them signs into your product.

What a client sees

What you have shared with them, on that engagement, and nothing else. Not your notes, not your other clients, not the parts of a deal you have not published to them.

Sharing is an action you take on a specific thing. There is no setting that shares everything by default and then hides parts of it, because that shape is one mistake away from showing a client something about another client.

What a referrer sees

Less. A referrer sees the status of what they referred and what they are owed. They are not a party to the engagement and their portal is not a narrower view of the client's; it is a different surface with a different purpose.

Accessibility

The portals are checked against an accessibility standard automatically, on every release, at a phone size and a desktop size. A failure blocks the release.

That is worth stating plainly because "accessible" is usually a statement about an audit somebody paid for once. This is a check that runs before every deploy, and it is the reason the brand colour step measures contrast before it will save.

What proves it worked

Open your client portal on a phone, in daylight. Read a settlement date. That is the real test, and it is the one the contrast measurement exists to make pass.

Then check the sharing: open the portal as a client would and confirm that something you have not shared is not there.

Your branding

The portal carries your colour, your logo and your name. It does not carry ours. What it does carry is the automated tools disclosure, which is generated from the features you have switched on.

Status colours stay ours. Overdue is the same red for every tenant, because a client who deals with two agencies should not have to relearn what a colour means.

A custom domain

The portal can answer on your own hostname. That is a separate step with its own article, and it is worth doing before you send the first client a link, because a link that changes later is a link somebody has bookmarked.
